Symposium “ost in space”
7.-8. October 20213
Location:
Fakultät für Angewandte Kunst der Westsächsischen Hochschule Zwickau Schneeberg
Goethestraße 1
08289 Schneeberg
ost in space is an artistic research program in the Saxonian Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge), a narrow region in eastern Germany on the border with the Czech Republic. It is characterized by its mining history, industrial culture and unique traditions. It represents an original starting point to explore the history(s) and especially connections between Saxony, Germany and abroad, uncover hidden histories and get to know the region from different perspectives.
The Erzgebirge holds immense knowledge that can be communicated very well across all boundaries, especially through contemporary art. ost in space wants to help enricht the Erzgebirge region unfold its concealed potential in the near future. We want to create a network that reaches from the rural area to the city and internationally.
The artistic directors of ost in space are Beatrice Schuett Moumdjian and Sandy Becker.
A symposium is planned for 7 & 8 October 2023 and an art project by Beatrice Schuett Moumdjian is planned for Schneeberg at the end of the year. The motto of the pilot year 2023 is “hidden stories”. What lies to the East of the East? How is the Erzgebirge connected to the rest of the world? Starting from the artwork, topics such as post-socialism, art in public space, virtual realities, Japan, uranium, cobalt, performance and a copied Erzgebirge will be discussed and, above all, space for visions will be opened up.
The symposium will be held in German. Individual translations are possible.
We look forward to receiving your brief registration at info@ostinspace.de,
