Glasfäden

In addition to the production “So glücklich, dass du Angst bekommst”, the accompanying project “Wir sind auch das Volk!” was developed and designed by ASA-FF e.V..

In a theatrical research laboratory for pupils and groups in collaboration with the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig, Rock your life! Chemnitz e. V. and the Courage-Werkstatt für demokratische Bildungsarbeit e. V., the Figurentheater Chemnitz artistically explored how work shapes our lives and what role migration, racism and equal opportunities play in this. And in the broadest sense, the Courage-Werkstatt für demokratische Bildungsarbeit e. V., Netzstelle Chemnitz (NDC Sachsen – Netzwerk für Demokratie und Courage in Sachsen) has developed a workshop on the history of former contract workers, (anti-Asian) racism and courageous action as a cooperation partner for the accompanying project “Wir sind auch das Volk!”.

In spring 2022, the interactive comic app Glasfäden was published, which provides very personal insights into the history of contract work. The app tells the story of the lives of contract workers from the perspective of two women. The mother came to the GDR from Hanoi via the “socialist brotherly aid” and stayed in a country that was undergoing radical change after the peaceful revolution. Her daughters were born into a family that was denied integration into society on many levels. Her personal experiences are representative of the large Vietnamese community in Chemnitz. But she also speaks for all former contract workers living in Germany today: “The app is great for telling our story so that more people know what influence we had on Germany,” said a young woman whose parents came to the GDR as contract workers during a test run of the app.

Interested parties can use the app in Vietnamese, German and English; a run-through takes 35 minutes and is therefore ideal for use at school or other educational context. Glasfäden is available to download online via the Apple Store or Google Play.
